Off-Campus P.E Requests

Deadline to submit Agency Applications is April 1, 2024.
Deadline to submit Student Applications is May 31, 2024.

ALL level applications can be submitted through the Off-Campus PE Requests Form. Students/Parents complete the form and all emails will be auto generated.

If you have already submitted a high school application, there is no need to resubmit.

The Off-Campus PE Program is an approved PE substitution that permits students in grades 6-12 to earn credits that meet the District and State physical education requirements.

The program permits students in grades 6-12 to earn half (.5) credit of Physical Education per semester for a maximum of one (1.0) credit per year.

Students in grades 6-12 may qualify as either Category 1 or Category 2. Category 1 requires a minimum of 15 hours per school week with an approved agency, as well as release time from school. Category 2 requires a minimum of five (5) hours per school week, with no release time.

    NEW in 2024

Texas Education Agency does not allow off-campus PE for middle school students—unless school districts provide instruction aligned to the TEKS for middle school PE.

As a result of TEA’s updated guidelines, Round Rock ISD has developed a curriculum so that middle school students can access Off-Campus PE credit while also participating in asynchronous, individual PE instruction that is aligned with PE Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

    Application & Expectations

    • Students will be expected to be physically educated, along with being physically active. Students are expected to demonstrate skill development, learned physical activity, health concepts, and social development.
    • These skills and knowledge are tested through participation in their selected physical activity that are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Physical Education.
Applications must be submitted each school year. Applications are found on the Round Rock ISD or the Off-Campus PE website or the RRISD Athletics website, then the PE/Wellness tab.
    • Applications will be carefully reviewed by the OCPE Program Administrator followed by a confirmation email sent to the parent with the approval or denial of the application.
    • Registrars will be notified with a list of all approved OCPE students.
    • The agency is responsible for keeping attendance, not the student. Students that abuse the program with irregular attendance will be withdrawn from the program.
    • It is the responsibility of the agency to submit student grades. A student may not submit his/her own grade. Parents and students should contact the student’s counselor if a grade has not been received.
    General Information
    • General information and guidelines for the OCPE program will be updated and posted online in January for the following school year.
    • Students wishing to participate in OCPE must apply each year for the following school year. It’s better to apply and not participate, than to not apply and want to participate. If in doubt, please submit an application by the deadline.

    • All Student and Agency Applications will be carefully considered, however, completion of the application does not guarantee approval to participate in the OCPE Program.

    • Competition and/or Saturday/Sunday’s DO NOT count towards hours.
    • Provide transportation for the chosen activity and participate in one agency/instructor at a time. Summer activities will not be counted.
    • Must comply with the no pass/no play regulation.
    • May not receive physical education credit in a given semester from any other physical education class or athletic class on campus.
    • Students receive an “unexcused absence” for any participation in scheduled competitions that occur during school hours.
    • All deadlines are strictly enforced…no extensions.

If student changes OCPE agency, then parents are to notify:

    • All instructors participating with the Approved Agencies must be CPR certified.
      • The approval process includes evidence of CPR/AED/First Aid Certification, Criminal History Background Check, instructor qualifications, and Agency Insurance.
      • Each agency coordinator must also be trained in taking attendance, grading, and submitting grades to campuses.
    • Each agency providing OCPE to middle school students must be approved by Round Rock ISD and trained in the TEKS-aligned learning standards.
    • An agency will be notified via email by May 1 whether or not they have been approved to participate in the OCPE Program.

All needed paperwork, including student roster and grade forms, will be submitted to the agency prior to the first day of school.
    Injury

Students must continue to attend agency classes if injured. They will receive alternative activities and lessons, but still must meet the minimum required hours per week based on their category. The Agency Coordinator must contact the OCPE Program Director for further assistance if injury/illness extends beyond one week.
